I have found through the years that the key to pain relief is stretching.  Yes, that old simple remedy – the stretch.  I am serious.  Stretching can help back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, sciatica, fibromyalgia, stress, carpal tunnel, and much more!

I don’t want to discount the importance of strength training when it comes to our bones, muscles, and body support, however, stretching is the secret to success in overall health.  Over time our muscles lose elasticity and draw up. The connective tissues become stiff and we become more prone to injury and tears in the joints.

I researched the “benefits” of stretching and was pleased to see that it benefits the entire body.  It will help prevent injuries, strengthen the immune system, increase flexibility, boost endurance, improve balance and confidence, and greatly improve the overall quality of life. You do not have to make it difficult. If you are unable to get down on the floor, then stretch in the bed.  You can lean against a wall or even begin in a chair.

Movement, pliability, flexibility and “do-ability” are what I believe.  I have been able to show my clients just a few things that they can easily incorporate into their daily routines that can make a world of difference in their flexibility. For example, straighten a leg or arm just enough to feel a pull and hold it for 5 -10 seconds, then release it.  If you do this every day, it will become easier and you can add to the movement.
